"The staff make me safe and have helped me build confidence and overcome challenges"
Andreea, 26, moved into HARP’s White Heather service (pictured) at the end of 2022. She was referred by the NHS Mental Health team after spending time in hospital due to a mental health crisis. Following this, Andreea was diagnosed with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder and other mental health conditions.
A love for photography
Before her crisis, Andreea was a photography student at London Metropolitan University. However, as her mental health worsened, she had to leave her studies behind.
Since arriving at HARP, Andreea has fully embraced the service’s meaningful activities programme, especially the arts and social activities. She has also received Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and personalized support from her key worker, Donna.
Recovery through art
“I have benefited so much during my time at HARP. The staff are incredibly friendly, helpful, and truly care about my well-being. They make me feel safe and have helped me build confidence and overcome challenges. I’m now helping to organize arts groups for others in the service and have even created a welcome pack for new residents.”
Donna, Andreea’s Key Worker, says: “I’ve seen incredible progress in Andreea since she first arrived. Her confidence continues to grow, and I’ve tailored my support to meet her specific needs. It’s been a joy to advocate for her and ensure she receives the best possible care from local mental health services. Her photographs decorate the service, and she regularly brightens my day with her thoughtful artwork and cards. It’s truly a pleasure to support her.”
Looking to the future
Looking ahead, Andreea hopes to return to her photography career and move on to a more independent living arrangement in the near future.
