Niamh’s Story: From Homelessness to Helping Others
Facing Homelessness at 19
In 2020, Niamh was just 19 years old when she found herself homeless after difficulties at home forced her to leave.
“I was sleeping on friends’ sofas, but their goodwill was running out. Thankfully, I was referred to HARP, and they gave me a room at White Heather House. I was also assigned a support worker to help me through. It wasn’t easy—I was acting out, which is why I had left home in the first place. For a while, I was heading downhill, but my lovely support worker, Harriet, managed to get through to me.”
Turning Her Life Around
Despite the challenges, with Harriet’s guidance, Niamh slowly turned her life around. Three years later, she is now using her experience to help others who are in the same situation she was once in. She finds great fulfillment in her role and is eager to continue growing within the charity in the future.
“I honestly don’t know where I’d be without HARP’s help. It’s the people that make all the difference, and I’m proud to now be one of those people. It’s a privilege to do this job and help others overcome their challenges so they can move forward with their lives!”
Niamh’s journey is a testament to the life-changing impact of HARP’s support services, showing how compassion and guidance can transform lives.
